This month, I carried on my tour of our Libraries and School Libraries to promote reading among all groups but especially young people. At Dee Point Primary in Blacon they use several techniques to help build a positive association with reading and this shone through in the enthusiasm displayed by the pupils. There was more good news for young families in Chester North & Neston with the announcement of the Best Start Family Hub which will be rolled out this year.
When visiting schools I like to ask the pupils what laws they would want to enact if in my position. This will often evoke interesting answers but they key underlying link is often the ideas of kindness and fairness. This often includes suggestions on greater protections for animals, which many constituents write to me about on a frequent basis. This includes the current consultation on proposals to ban trail hunting, which you can engage with here.
We remain a nation of animal lovers and I celebrated National Pet Day with my pet cats, Frankie as seen below joined the family from the fantastic Chester Kitty Cat Rescue-UK who are one of so many fantastic voluntary groups we host in Chester North & Neston.

I’d like to thank Chester Business Improvement District for organising my recent business surgery. We have some amazing businesses across Chester North & Neston and there are challenges faced by businesses during the cost-of-living crisis so if you feel able to, please do continue to support our local businesses. The Chester High Street continues to welcome new businesses with The Ivy, The Drawing Room, a new Theatre themed backstage bar and the refurbished Tesco on Frodsham Street opening recently.
I’d like also to thank “Michelle from Newton” who got in touch following last month’s newsletter to share her recommendation: “The Yarnery next to the Brook Street Car Park is a fantastic little wool, crochet and knitting shop, run by the fabulous and knowledgeable Hannah. It’s hidden out of the way of the main road but is an absolute gem. How many other hidden gems do we have in Chester, that are just waiting to be discovered?
In Parkgate it was great to meet with members of the Parkgate Society to talk about life as their MP.
Another opportunity readers maybe interested in, takes place on 10th May. The fantastic Chester FC Women’s team have reached the final of the Alliance Design & Print Cup. This will be hosted at the Deva Stadium following their 4-2 win against Accrington Stanley Women FC in the semi-finals. It would be great to see a big attendance to back our women in the final!

I’d like to thank the constituents who attended my recent Saughall Surgery at the Vernon Institute which continues to be a tremendous asset for Saughall residents. It was helpful to meet with constituents to discuss the importance of budgeting, the Bahai’i faith and more provision for football.
As always, If you or someone you know is experiencing difficulty in navigating bureaucracy please reach out to arrange a surgery meeting or have your case dealt with directly through email.
Thanks again for taking the time to read this update.
