Last week marked English Tourism Week, and with Cheshire Day just around the corner, it’s an excellent opportunity to celebrate all our local area has to offer.

Our tourism industry is an integral part of this community, providing jobs, supporting businesses, and showcasing the vibrant history and stunning landscapes of Cheshire. We are fortunate to be surrounded by an abundance of attractions and businesses that not only define our local identity but also contribute significantly to the local economy. Where else can you meet a Roman at the Roman Amphitheatre within the historic city walls!?

During English Tourism Week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Deva Roman Experience, where I joined Dean Paton, founder of Big Heritage, Christian Marcucci from Visit Cheshire, and one of Chester’s fantastic Roman guides. We also visited our Visitor Information Centre to catch up with Isabel and Martin about the incredible work they do in welcoming visitors to our city. Their efforts, alongside those of organisations like the Chester Business Improvement District, Marketing Cheshire, Visit Chester and all our amazing businesses, are key in ensuring our city remains one of the UK’s top destinations.

I was pleased to hear that this January saw the highest number of visitors in years, a strong indicator that our city’s appeal is as strong as ever. Chester’s Roman walls, Chester Castle, the Cathedral, and the Grosvenor Museum are just a few of the attractions that keep tourists coming back. The world-famous Chester Zoo and the stunning Cheshire countryside, including the Wirral Way and Dee Estuary, offer unparalleled experiences for those seeking both history and natural beauty.

Cheshire Day (30th March) this year brings an exciting opportunity to learn more about our county’s rich heritage. The Lord Mayor of Chester and the Chester Charter Trustees are delighted to invite residents and visitors to a free civic history talk at the iconic Chester Town Hall on Monday 30th March 2026.

As we continue to celebrate our local area, I encourage everyone, whether a lifelong resident or a first-time visitor, to explore all that Chester North and Neston has to offer.
