It’s an honour to represent our local area on the green benches in the House of Commons. Every time I walk into the Chamber, I’m reminded that I am there because of you, your trust, your voices, and the legacy of democracy that allows us all to have a say in the decisions that shape our lives. With UK Parliament Week taking place next week, I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone across our local area who’s getting involved in this fantastic initiative. It’s a brilliant way for us all to learn more about how our democracy works and how we can be part of it.
While the grand debates and decisions made in Westminster often grab the headlines, what happens in communities like ours is just as important. Local voices, local issues, and local concerns are at the heart of our democratic system. As your Member of Parliament, my role is to bring those voices into national conversations and represent your views in Westminster.
During Parliament Week, local schools, community groups and organisations across our local area will be taking part in a range of activities designed to bring Parliament closer to home. Whether it’s mock debates, interactive workshops, or visits to the Palace of Westminster, it’s an exciting opportunity for students to see democracy in action.
I look forward to visiting schools such as Mill View Primary and Neston Primary School during the week, where I’ll have the chance to engage directly with students and hear their thoughts on how Parliament works. Whenever I visit schools, I am always blown away by the insightful questions young people ask. How are laws made? How does our democracy work, and why does it matter? These are questions many of us ask from time to time, and UK Parliament Week provides the perfect opportunity to explore these fundamental topics with our next generation of leaders.
UK Parliament Week is a reminder of the power we all have to shape the decisions that impact our lives. I am incredibly proud to see so many local schools, organisations, and community groups taking part, and I want to thank them for their commitment to making democracy more accessible for everyone.
I hope you enjoy all the activities, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts, ideas, and questions.
Have a fantastic UK Parliament Week!
