Since being elected, I’ve been working hard in Parliament to bring real change to Chester North & Neston and that work is now paying off.
We’ve unlocked over £624,000 in funding to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping in Cheshire West and Chester. That money will go towards helping vulnerable families cover the essentials like food, school travel, and laundry as well as providing specialist support to those experiencing long-term rough sleeping.
I’m also pleased the Labour Government is investing £163,352 in family services locally, as part of our plan to deliver 1,000 Best Start Family Hubs across the country. These centres will be a one-stop shop for parents, offering help with everything from early years development to housing advice, right here in our own communities. I’m pleased our Council has always worked hard to keep services for children and families at the heart of its work. Now the Government is stepping up the support too.
Alongside these major announcements, I’ve also been out and about celebrating the amazing work happening in our community, including a number of milestone anniversaries.
Congratulations to the Repair Café at the Hoole Community Centre on their first anniversary. A brilliant volunteer-led local initiative. Thank you to everyone involved who has worked hard to see more than 350 items repaired and reused avoiding ending up in our waste system. It was great to celebrate with you and see the real enthusiasm and commitment you all have.
A big thank you to Bren Bikes, who welcomed me ahead of their 10th anniversary. Over the past decade, the Bren Project has provided more than 20,000 hours of volunteering and supported work placements to help people into meaningful employment. They now have a fantastic community café at Hoole United Reformed Church, please call in and check it out!
Speaking of anniversaries, October marks 75 years since the reconstruction of the House of Commons Chamber, which was bombed during the Second World War and reopened in 1950. It remains a powerful symbol of our democracy’s resilience, and I’m honoured every day to represent our constituency in that historic place. I highly recommend taking a look at the fascinating online exhibition on the House of Commons website that explores the Chamber’s history and the story behind its post-war reconstruction, marking this important anniversary.
And finally, I would like to extend an invitation to my Macmillan Coffee Afternoon, taking place on Friday 24th October. Please get in touch to register your interest and receive full details of the event.
Thanks as always for your continued support. Together, we’re delivering real change.
