Welcome to my October roundup where you can read all about what I’ve been up to recently. It’s been another busy month of events in Parliament and across Chester North & Neston learning more about the amazing work going on every day to help local people. October has marked the first 100 days of the new Government and the first budget delivered by a Labour Chancellor of the Exchequer since March 2010 and the first to be delivered by a female Chancellor in history.
If you’d like me to visit your organisation or business, please get in touch.
As your Member of Parliament, I’ve continued to work on various issues raised by fellow residents via email, telephone, at my surgeries while Parliament has been in recess.
As always, if you have any issues or questions about Government policies I can help with, please drop me a line at samantha.dixon.mp@parliament.uk

Once again I’ve been out and about in the wonderful green spaces we have this month. I’ve helped volunteers plant bulbs in Neston and can’t wait to see the results in the spring. On the other side of the constituency I helped break the ground for a time capsule at the Caldy Valley Neighbourhood and Community Centre. Both events helped bring the community together to value our local areas which are an asset for us all to enjoy.
In Vicars Cross, I enjoyed celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Vicars Cross Community Centre being managed by Great Boughton Parish Council. The event was well attended and the community centre continues to host a wide range of events and classes for all residents to enjoy.

Chester continues to host interesting events at some of our amazing venues. I enjoyed visiting the Cathedral to view the Trena Cox exhibition. Our city has produced so many talented individuals and its always nice to see their talent recognised.
In Blacon, I attended the opening of the Natural World Art Exhibition and had the honour of addressing attendees to talk about the growth of women in leadership roles, an area in which Chester excels with several key organisations being led by women.

Chester and Neston continue to have strong links to the Fairtrade organisation and its principles. Following on from my Fairtrade coffee morning in Neston, it was great to join volunteers at the Fairtrade shop at the Wesley Centre in Chester for their Autumn Fair.
In Parliament, it was heart warming to see many MPs participating in the #WearItPink campaign to highlight the issue of breast cancer. This cruel disease continues to affect too many across the UK, I’d like to thank all those who continue to raise money for charities focusing on this issue.

At the end of October, I had the pleasure of crossing the Welsh border to visit the Airbus UK factory at Broughton. It was great to meet with some of the apprentices from Chester North & Neston at the facility. Hundreds of constituents currently work for Airbus, one of our region’s most important and successful businesses. I remain grateful that so many reliable large employers base themselves around Chester and continue to ensure our area is prosperous.
On the subject of workers, it was great to see Rachel Reeves MP deliver the first budget from a female Chancellor of the Exchequer and the first from a Labour MP since March 2010.The Budget has managed to deliver on the promises set out in the manifesto, delivering key policies to ensure work pays while providing support for small businesses.

My series of Housing surgery events continued this month with an event in Neston. These events bring housing associations, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Citizens Advice and the police around the table so residents can raise their concerns directly.
I continue to hold regular surgeries to help constituents several times a month. My office remains accessible by email and phone so if you have an issue you think I can help with, please do get in touch.

Thank you again for taking the time to read this update. I hope it was interesting and informative as to the work I’ve been undertaking for you this last month, and please share these newsletters with your friends and family members.
As always, if you have any ideas or issues, please get in touch at samantha.dixon.mp@parliament.uk
