Tourism and the visitor economy is vital for our local area.
As we near the end of summer, I want to take a moment to reflect on another lovely summer here in Chester North and Neston and to thank everyone working on our high streets and in our communities who contribute to making it one of the UK’s premier destinations for visitors from near and far.
Our historic city, with its unique blend of Roman heritage, stunning architecture, and vibrant cultural scene, draws thousands of visitors each year. The Rows, the Walls, the Cathedral, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Racecourse, Chester Zoo and so much more play a huge part in attracting visitors to our area and contributing significantly to our local economy. It’s heartening to see our shops, restaurants, and hotels buzzing with activity, providing a vital boost to local businesses and jobs.
Here in Chester, we are lucky to be located between the stunning natural beauty of North Wales and the rolling hills of the Cheshire countryside, towns and villages. I am pleased the appeal of our constituency to visitors extends beyond the city to Neston, Parkgate and Willaston. Here we find delightful high streets, Ness Gardens, outstanding fish and chips and delicious ice cream shops overlooking the marshlands, all well worth a visit.
In fact, earlier this week, I had the pleasure of joining Cllr Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council and others for the official opening of the Cheshire section of the King Charles III England Coast Path in Parkgate.
The King Charles Path will be longest managed coastal path in the world. It will circle the coast of England and will be around 2,700 miles long when complete. I am pleased that part of this path now runs through our constituency, from Parkgate to Queensferry where it joins the Welsh Coastal Path, providing improvements for all walkers, local and visitors alike, to use this route, whatever the weather, to walk our part of the England Coast path.
This complements the many excellent walks for residents in Chester North and Neston, from the Chester Greenway stretching through Chester from Mickle Trafford all the way up to Hawarden Bridge, including the beautiful section at the site of the former Blacon Railway Station. The Hadlow Road Railway Station is also worth a visit with a fantastic café and a great walk from Neston along the Wirral Way.
