I’d like to wish everyone a very happy New Year filled with hope, prosperity and positive change.

As the new year begins, many of us look to new beginning and set ourselves goals and new year’s resolutions.

It is also important to look back and reflect on the lessons we can learn from the year just gone.

I look back at 2023 with gratitude as it was my first year as your representative and the Member of Parliament for the wonderful City of Chester.  I firmly believe I represent the best constituency in the country. I am very lucky to be able to represent this beautiful city.

Being in this job also means I see first-hand the difficulties my constituents face day to day.

Chester, as beautiful, unique and historic as it is, has always masked significant levels of inequality. However, in the last year, many people have found that life has become very challenging.

There is no doubt that many people living in our city are struggling and that many of the organisations that would normally be helping them are finding times tough too.

It’s been a difficult few years with many continuing to battle with the gruelling challenges of the cost-of-living crisis. Our public services and local authorities have also been starved of recourses.

I truly believe residents in Chester and the whole country need change. We need hope that things can be better. So I hope this new year can bring the change to which we all look forward.

As many of you will know, 2024 will be an election year. The election for the Police and Crime Commissioner will take place on 2nd May. And while we still do not know exactly when, the general election must take place before 28th January 2025.

It is really important that as many people as possible participate in the forthcoming elections. Voting is the way in which electors can make a real change for their local area.

So I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t done so already to make sure you are registered to vote. You can do so here: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

In 2024, I am looking forward to continuing my work as your Member of Parliament, standing up for Chester and supporting you in any way I can.

Please remember that I am here to help. I hold regular constituency surgeries. If you need any support or would like to discuss anything, please get in touch on samantha.dixon.mp@parliament.uk
